Due to the retiral of the present editor, we are looking for a successor who possesses the flair and imagination
This post requires prior experience in the position of editor together with a genuine understanding of our readership and clients, plus the practical skills of a good writing style and editing and proofing. A sound knowledge of Scotland is necessary alongside budgeting and freelance negotiation skills and a thorough knowledge of legal matters. You should be acutely commercially-aware and able to work closely with the advertising department. Duties will include the following: • Generating ideas for features • Commissioning articles from freelance and in-house writers • Managing in-house staff and freelance writers • Editing, writing and proofreading articles – both in-house and submitted • Overseeing artwork, design and photography for the magazine • Organising meetings with your team to stimulate ideas for artwork, layout and features • Attending photo-shoots • Assisting other staff to meet their deadlines • Negotiating payments with freelance writers and sending out briefs to include word counts, deadline, fee and writing style • Raising the profile of the magazine • Networking to promote the magazine’s visibility and identify editorial and commercial opportunities • Acting as an ambassador for the publication at relevant events £ Excellent + car + BUPA + Pension Full Driving Licence is essential.
